The Author

I have a master’s degree in psychology and started my working life with an international IT company, holding jobs in technical writing and communications.

In 1998, my husband Jan and I gave up our business careers in the Netherlands and moved to the south of France to build and run a campsite. Five years later, we felt strongly drawn to Italy; in 2004, our life path took yet another turn when we moved to Umbria.

There, amid forested hills and historic cities, I found not only my geographical destination, but also, after an intense struggle, my spiritual destination.

We now pastor a Christian community.

I love to spend time with Jan and our daughter and, other than writing, enjoy taking long walks through the woods with our three dogs.

My favorite season in Umbria is autumn, when the heat of the Italian summer gives way to more invigorating temperatures, wisps of fog rise from the valleys in the morning, and golden sunlight intensifies the vibrant fall colors of the forests.

  1. Hi Milly, I’m Chris Martin’s mother. Thank you ever so much for the incredible review you wrote for “I Was There”. I’m going now to check out your book, which I’m sure I’ll be reading!! Have a wonderful, blessed day.

  2. Hello Betty Jo, nice to meet you here! I just checked out your blog and love the theme of “Getting Real”. That’s what our faith should be about, shouldn’t it–a real and relevant life style, only possible in a relation with our living, loving God.

I also saw your beautiful pictures.I now understand why Chris asked you to design the cover of his latest book, “I Was There”. I love it.

Thank you so much for wanting to read “Destination Italy”. I pray it will bless you.

  3. Hi Milly,

My blog has been sadly neglected as of late. I recently moved, and have been sick for the past week. Chris and my granddaughter prayed for me yesterday, so today I’m pain free and hope to get back to my blog and photography soon. Thank you for you kind comments and for following my blog. I bought your book a bit ago and can’t wait to dive into it. Have a super week!

  4. Hi Milly, just wanted to thank you for following us–it will be great journeying together! Especially since we’re practically neighbors! Have a great afternoon.

    Many blessings from Abruzzo,

  5. Thank you Daniele! Sorry for the late reply–somehow I missed your comment completely. We love Italy and more important, God loves Italy. We feel blessed that He wants to use us here.
Blessings from Umbria to both of you!

    • Ciao, come stat oggi, bene? Calvary blessings to you both – thanks for your response, much appreciated Milly! How’s your husband, Jan, and the ministries doing? I hope the Italian weather over there is hot and sunny now? Dio te benedica, AMEN!!!

      • Stiamo bene, grazie! It is rather hot here. With regards to ministry, we’re praying for an awakening. Thanks for praying with us! God bless.

I'd love to know what you think!
